Poems

We had a Skype session in school with Ken Nesbitt.  He is a poet who writes lots of silly poems.  During our Skype, he showed us his website where there are loads and loads of his poems.  Our class and Mr. Nesbitt made up a poem together called Playing With Your Food where we gave him food words that rhymed and he put everything together into a poem.

Below is what we came up with (the first and third stanzas) during the Skype.  The second stanza (in pink) is what I added. (A stanza is like a paragraph in a poem. My mom told me that!)

Playing With Your Food

Swimming with sushi.
Tennis with tomatoes.
Skipping with spaghetti.
Polo with potatoes.

Golfing with grapes.
Bowling with beets.
Hockey with honey.
Sailing with sweets.

Baseball with bacon.
I'm in an awesome mood!
Nothing is better than
Playing with your food

~

Here is one that I made up, called Imagine.

Imagine

Imagine a stew
That tastes like glue.
Imagine James
Went up in flames.
Imagine Mary
Is really hairy!
Imagine a hill
That is on a grill.
Imagine dough
That could sew.
Just imagine!

I hope you like the poems! Oh, and just if you wanted to know how to make a funny poem, the trick I used was to make the words rhyme.  It could rhyme every line or sometimes every other line!  Try it --it's fun!

Poetry Idol

For my class homework, we had to memorise or read a poem to the class! I could not decide which poem to say --Trees (by Joyce Kilmer) or Dreams (by Langston Hughes), --but in the end I chose Trees

Three children from each class got chosen to go to the finals.  From my class, I was one of the three that were chosen.  We had to say the exact same poem as what we had recited in class before ( for me I had to say Trees) and one person would win from each class and I WON from my class!  I did really like the poems that my other two classmates performed.  I thought they did great, too.

I felt really nervous while waiting for my turn to perform.  I had a thousand million butterflies in my stomach!  I really wanted to win.  When I found out I'd won, I was really happy and excited to find out what my prize was.

I got a book called Pumpkin Grumkin as my prize. In this post I am going to share a poem from that book with you (see below)!

Here is me holding my prize!

A Sense-less Poem
By Carey Blyton

I'm having trouble with my ears-
They do not see so well.
My eyes are also failing fast-
They've lost their sence of smell.
My nose has lost its power of speech.
My tongue, its sense of touch.
Alas, your sympathy is in vain-
My hands can't hear you so much.

I really like funny poems like Ken Nesbitt's poems, because they're silly and they make me laugh.  What kind of poems do you like?

Book Recommendations {1}

I LOVE books! If you do, then you should like this post because this is about books!

BIG NATE Flips Out (written by Lincoln Peirce)

Big Nate is a series of books and most of the books are comics! It's really funny and I really like it! It's about him making a promise to his friend and he broke it...could they be friends again?

I learned that Big Nate was really messy, but he got hypnotized and then he became neat!

GODDESS GIRLS  (written by Joan Holub; illustrated by Suzanne Williams)

These books are about immortals and their adventures, but the most special thing is that they are really good friends! My favorite books are Athena the Wise, Aphrodite the Diva, The Girl Games, and Pandora the Curious!

I learn a little about Greek mythology in these books. I learned names of different gods and goddesses.

Thea Stilton (written by Geronimo Stilton)

I like Thea Stilton Legend of the Fire Flowers (but I also like the whole series!). It's about five mice that are best friends, that travel the world and go on journeys. No spoilers!

I also like it because I learn about different places. For example, I learned interesting facts about Peru and also France. Did you know that people in France are obsessed with clothing? I learned that some people in Peru care for sheep and goats.

I hope you will like these books as much as I do! My favorite series so far is the Goddess Girls series!
